As a Senior Data Architect, you will assess the current state of a Databricks-based data platform and define a clear, actionable roadmap toward a target architecture.
In addition to the assessment, you will provide architectural guidance to ongoing data development work, ensuring alignment with best practices and long-term scalability.
Responsibilities
- Conduct a comprehensive end-to-end assessment of the data platform, including:
- Data ingestion and pipelines
- Medallion architecture layers (bronze, silver, gold)
- Unity Catalog and governance
- Semantic and serving layers
- CI/CD, security, and cost management
- Perform a gap analysis against the target architecture and define:
- Key issues and risks
- Business impact
- Prioritized remediation actions
- Define and communicate a clear architectural roadmap
- Provide architectural guidance and design reviews for ongoing data initiatives
- Review and assess existing codebases, pipelines, and data models to ensure recommendations are grounded in practice
- Collaborate with both technical teams and business stakeholders
Required Experience
- Extensive experience in data engineering and/or data architecture
- Proven experience designing and delivering Databricks-based lakehouse platforms in production
- Strong hands-on expertise with:
- Databricks (Delta, Unity Catalog, workflows, SQL)
- Python and SQL
- Deep understanding of:
- Medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold)
- Data modelling and semantic layers
- Metadata-driven ingestion and transformation frameworks
- Experience with:
- Cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
- CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code for data platforms
- Cost and capacity management
- Proven track record in:
- Conducting platform assessments
- Delivering actionable, prioritized architecture recommendations
- Strong communication skills, able to engage both engineers and senior stakeholders
- Experience with AI-assisted development practices in production environments
Nice to Have
- Experience with data platforms serving AI or LLM-based use cases
- Background in SaaS or B2B environments
- Exposure to finance or KPI-driven data domains
- Experience with data contracts, data mesh, or domain-oriented architectures
Start date for this role is flexible, this is a long-term, full-time role mostly done remotely. Some visits to the client's Helsinki region office would be preferred. English language skills are enough.
