In this assignment, you will build, evolve and operate real-time backend engines and services that ingest high volumes of network data, process it through streaming pipelines and serve results via REST APIs.
Python is the primary programming language. The services run mainly on AWS ECS Fargate and AWS Lambda, while event processing is built around AWS MSK, Kafka and AWS Kinesis. The broader data platform includes DynamoDB, RDS, S3, ElastiCache and SNS.
The services are deployed across several AWS regions, organizations and accounts. They operate in large-scale international environments with strict requirements for uptime, resilience, scalability and cost efficiency.
Your responsibilities will include
- Developing and operating event-driven Python services and REST APIs
- Building production-grade streaming solutions using AWS MSK, Kafka and AWS Kinesis
- Working with Avro, Protobuf and JSON data formats and schema registries
- Designing resilient, fault-tolerant and automatically scaling services
- Managing CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code
- Supporting multi-account, cross-account and multi-region AWS deployments
- Instrumenting and monitoring services with Prometheus, Grafana and AWS CloudWatch
- Integrating services with shared alerting and 24/7 operations tooling
- Working with network protocol data, including Ethernet and Wi-Fi frame formats
- Building matching and deduplication logic for high-volume data
- Maintaining compatibility between independently released application and machine-learning components
- Developing automated tests and maintaining strict quality, linting and security standards
- Taking end-to-end responsibility for the services you build and operate
Skills we are looking for
- Strong professional experience with Python
- Practical experience designing event-driven or streaming backend services
- Hands-on experience with AWS ECS, Fargate, Lambda and Docker
- Experience designing and developing REST APIs
- Production experience with Kafka-based streaming technologies, preferably AWS MSK
- Experience with schema registries and formats such as Avro, Protobuf and JSON
- Experience with AWS services such as DynamoDB, RDS, S3, ElastiCache, SNS and Kinesis
- Understanding of large-scale, always-on backend services with strict SLAs
- Practical experience with infrastructure as code and CI/CD, such as Terraform, GitHub Actions or Jenkins
- Experience monitoring your own services using Prometheus, Grafana or AWS CloudWatch
- Experience with multi-account and multi-region AWS environments
- A test-first mindset and confidence working with strict CI quality gates
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills in business-critical production environments
- Fluent spoken and written English
- A proactive “you build it, you run it” mindset
Nice to have
- Experience with AWS SAM or CloudFormation
- Knowledge of low-level networking or packet analysis
- Experience with tools and technologies such as C++, pcap, Wireshark, dpkt, QUIC or HTTP/2
- Experience with machine-learning serving or inference pipelines
- Understanding of compatibility challenges between separately versioned application code and models
- Experience operating high-volume systems under strict availability requirements
- Strong cloud cost awareness and the ability to connect architectural choices with operational costs
- Experience working in regulated or certified environments, such as ISO 9001 or SOC 2 Type 2
- Experience working in a global organization with international teams
Working arrangement
100% allocation. The work can be performed remotely from Finland. You will collaborate with international colleagues, primarily located in Europe and North America.
Working languages
English is the working language. Finnish is not required.
Start and duration
The assignment will start as soon as possible or as agreed. The initial duration is at least three months.
